One of my life goals is to play every mainline Final Fantasy game. I started playing these as a kids, and have started most of them, but not completed them all yet.

Complete:

• Final Fantasy V - 8/10 - I completed the Pixel Remaster on Switch of Final Fantasy in November 2025. I really enjoyed the game, it has some great twists and doesn’t hold your hand. I do think the Pixel Remaster has to be the one to play, as you can turn off random battles and enable 4x money and EXP, so you can basically just play the game 4x faster. The job system is really cool and customizable.

• Final Fantasy VII - 9/10 - I’ve beat this a few times, and also the remakes for PS4-PS5, which are even better. Some of the best characters in all of Final Fantasy, there’s a reason it is so popular.

• Final Fantasy X - 10/10 - I’ve beat this twice, it’s an incredible game and still ages very well for a PS2 game. I have played X-2 but not completed it, maybe I will add it to the list.

• Final Fantasy XVI - 9/10 - This was a really fun game with a great new combat system, some good twists and memorable characters.

Incomplete:

• Final Fantasy II - might have played this as a kid but don’t remember anything about it.

• Final Fantasy III - might have played this as a kid but don’t remember anything about it.

• Final Fantasy IV - might have played this as a kid but don’t remember anything about it.

• Final Fantasy VI - started this a few times, always rage quit at that stupid octopus boss.

• Final Fantasy VIII - I’ve started this a dozen times, even got to Disc 4 once but that disc was scratched up. Might find a remastered or upscaled version.

• Final Fantasy XI - never played

• Final Fantasy XII - started a few times, I like the battle system, but there’s so many characters and the plot seemed pretty convoluted, so I never stuck with it.

• Final Fantasy XIII - started this a few times, never beat it. And I guess there is like 3 sequels, not sure how I will count those.

• Final Fantasy XIV - never played

• Final Fantasy XV - started this once, really could not get into it, I think this might be a chore.

Beat but need to beat again to count on my list:

• Final Fantasy I - completed this when I was in middle or high school, don’t remember much about it other than Chaos and it was pretty generic and short. I’ll play it again.

• Final Fantasy IX - I’m putting this here because I want to replay it, but I’ve beat this once and it was my favorite of the series. Every time I got to replay the PS1 version, I get so annoyed at the load times that I shut it off. I want to play the Moguri Mod but don’t currently own a Windows computer. So I’m putting this in the “to play again” section.
